Sarah Hixon has over 20 years of experience in dance through performing,
choreographing, and teaching. She received professional and pre-professional
training with The Fairfaix Ballet, The Washington Ballet, The Milwaukee Ballet,
BalletMet Columbus, and the Princeton Ballet. She received her BFA in Dance
from George Mason University, where she performed in numerous dance concerts,
including residencies/choreography by Alwin Nikolais and Mark Morris. While
there, she choreographed 9 pieces for the GMU Dance Company, and received the
faculty award for Excellence in Choreography. In 2003 she began AnomosMotion,
a dance collective working in the greater Washington DC area for which she
performed and choreographed. Ms. Hixon has also studied Baroque and historical
dance, and was the 2003 and 2004 recipient of the Wendy Hilton Baroque Dance
Scholarship. She has been an instructor of many dance styles, dance history, dance
technology, and composition over the last 7 years, teaching at private studios,
universities, and for the American College Dance Festival. Sarah also recently held
a full-time appointment as a Graduate Teaching Associate at the Ohio State University.
She holds an MFA in Dance from OSU, and her research focused on aspects of the
choreographic process. While there, she choreographed 4 new pieces, 2 of which were
mentioned by The Alive! as highlights of the dance season. Ms. Hixon is currently a
free-lance choreographer, video-artist, and teacher, and also works in video editing
and lighting design. She is also the Publicity Director for Columbus Movement
Movement (cm2), an organization for dancers and choreographers working in central
Ohio.
